Newton residents looking for something to do Saturday and Sunday have plenty of options, from a free Asian food and culture festival at City Hall to a kids' science program about poop.

Asian Fest at Newton City Hall

A free Asian food and culture market takes over Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organized by Nathika Events LLC, the festival will feature food and handmade gifts from more than a dozen area vendors, plus a beer garden for attendees 21 and older. No tickets required.

Newton Community Farm open house

Families can tour the fields, meet the chickens and check out summer vegetables at the Newton Community Farm's open house Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 303 Nahanton St. Plants and produce will be available for purchase, and volunteers will give tours and answer questions. Registration is requested.

Science Saturdays at Newton Free Library

Susie Maguire of the Poop Museum in the Netherlands leads a live virtual session, screened in the Children's Program Room at Newton Free Library, for kids ages 6 to 9 on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. The session, part of a six-week series, explores gross things found in nature. No registration required, but space is limited to 25 children. The library's calendar has full details.

Saturday Farmers' Market

The weekly Newton Farmers' Market at Newton North High School, 352 Lowell Ave., runs Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market operates every Saturday through Oct. 31, according to OurNewton.org.

Dr. Albert R. Frederick exhibit at Scandinavian Cultural Center

On Sunday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center in West Newton hosts a reception and exhibit honoring Dr. Albert R. Frederick, an artist who lived at the Scandinavian Living Center and died earlier this summer. Frederick traveled the world with his wife, Suzanne, and his photographs will be on display and available for purchase.
