Hebrew College in Newton's Auburndale neighborhood named four new members to its Board of Trustees on Monday, Aug. 10, adding leaders with backgrounds in real estate, law, philanthropy and congregational life to the more-than-century-old institution's governing body.

The new trustees are Kenneth Barron, Diana Lloyd, Rabbi Jessica Lowenthal and Rebecca Voorwinde, the college announced on its community blog.

Barron leads a Cambridge-based real estate firm and has held governance roles at Mount Auburn Hospital, the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce and the Anti-Defamation League of New England. Lloyd spent more than two decades as a partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart, served as an assistant U.S. attorney and has held leadership roles at the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, Combined Jewish Philanthropies and Gann Academy.

Rabbi Lowenthal, ordained by Hebrew College in 2019, serves as rabbi of Temple Beth Shalom in Melrose. She already leads the Hebrew College Clergy Alumni Association as its president. Her board appointment deepens that tie. Before rabbinical school, she worked as assistant regional director at the Anti-Defamation League in Boston.

Voorwinde is CEO of The Bronfman Fellowship, a national Jewish leadership program for teens founded in 1987 by Edgar M. Bronfman. The fellowship's alumni network numbers more than 1,400. Voorwinde herself is a Bronfman alumna who joined the staff in 2008 and holds a certificate in Jewish executive leadership from Columbia Business School.

Hebrew College relocated to its current shared campus at 1860 Washington St. with Temple Reyim in January 2023. The Auburndale site also houses the Jewish Women's Archive, Keshet, Mayyim Hayyim Living Waters Community Mikveh and the Zamir Chorale of Boston.

The college, founded in 1921 as the Hebrew Teachers College in Roxbury, describes its rabbinical school as the fastest-growing in the country, with alumni serving 38 Greater Boston synagogues. Rabbi Sharon Cohen Anisfeld has led the institution as president since July 2018.
