Newton North girls soccer is positioned to qualify for the MIAA Division 1 state tournament after placing No. 22 in the latest published power rankings.

The Tigers finished immediately behind No. 20 Natick and No. 21 Lincoln-Sudbury in the Nov. 3 rankings, according to The Mass Pitch’s compilation.

The top 32 teams in each division qualify regardless of their overall record. Final rankings and tournament brackets are scheduled for release Thursday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m.

Tigers finish regular season 5-7-6

Newton North closed the regular season with a 1-0 victory at Walpole on Monday, Nov. 2, finishing 5-7-6.

The win followed a 3-3 tie with Dracut on Oct. 31, a 2-0 loss to Natick on Oct. 29 and a 1-0 loss to Brookline on Oct. 27, according to MaxPreps.

The girls’ shutout completed a sweep for Newton North’s soccer programs that evening. The boys beat Walpole 6-1 at home, as we reported Nov. 3.

Brackets arrive Thursday

Tuesday’s rankings preceded the MIAA’s final review and correction period. Under the association’s tournament schedule, season data becomes final at 9 a.m. Thursday before rankings and brackets are published at 1 p.m.

The initial bracket will identify Newton North’s opponent if its qualifying position holds. Game dates, times and sites may be added afterward.
