If you vote in Ward 2, Precincts 2 or 3, don't show up at Cabot Elementary this September.

Beginning with the Sept. 1 state primary, voters in those precincts will cast ballots at the Cooper Center for Active Living, 345 Walnut St., after Newton's Programs & Services Committee unanimously approved the change on June 24.

The move returns voting to the Cooper Center, which served as a polling place before the building was rebuilt. During construction, elections were temporarily relocated to Cabot Elementary School.

Deputy City Clerk and Elections Supervisor Jill Seppa said the change restores the Cooper Center as a polling location while moving elections out of an elementary school.

To help avoid confusion, the city will mail notices to affected voters and post signs at both Cabot Elementary and the Cooper Center directing people to the correct location.

The committee approved the change 6-0, but it still requires final approval from the full City Council before taking effect.

The first election at the new polling place is the Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, state primary, followed by the Nov. 3 state election. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
