A 60-year-old Newton man was stabbed in the abdomen during a road rage confrontation on Drumlin Road in Oak Hill on Monday, Oct. 19, Newton police said.

The suspect, Albeldy Pinales-Villar, 28, of Boston, pleaded not guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60 during his arraignment in Newton District Court on Tuesday, Oct. 20, Patch reported. He was held on $5,000 cash bail.

The victim, identified by NBC10 Boston as Aetan Mataev, told the station he was pulling out of his driveway on Brookline Street when Pinales-Villar's vehicle clipped his car and drove off. Mataev said he followed the driver to Drumlin Road to get his insurance information.

"I felt something warm sliding down my belly. I lifted up [my shirt] and blood was gushing," Mataev told NBC10 Boston.

Prosecutors said Mataev got out of his car and approached Pinales-Villar to obtain his driver information. Pinales-Villar then stepped out of his vehicle, stabbed Mataev in the abdomen and fled the scene, according to Patch.

Newton police officers and detectives responded to Drumlin Road at about 2 p.m. Lt. Hagai Brandon told the Newton Beacon the stabbing was the result of a road rage incident. Mataev was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. His injuries were not life-threatening. He was later released.

Investigators used the vehicle's license plate to locate Pinales-Villar. Police told Patch he was arrested outside his home in Boston.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Lee said the stabbing was "a violent crime against a stranger due to a minor incident of road rage" that was "very concerning to the commonwealth," according to NBC10 Boston.

Pinales-Villar's attorney, Christine Breslin, disputed the prosecution's account. She said her client is a food delivery driver who had gotten lost in Newton and denied any collision occurred, NBC10 Boston reported. Breslin said Pinales-Villar told her Mataev "jumped out, approached his car and came at him," and that her client acted in self-defense.

A witness recorded the encounter on a cellphone, and Pinales-Villar also recorded the incident, according to Patch.

The judge ordered Pinales-Villar to have no contact with Mataev. Police have seized both vehicles as part of the investigation, which remains active.

Pinales-Villar is scheduled to return to Newton District Court on Nov. 10.
