Newton Police are asking the public to help identify a man they say was caught on camera ripping a door handle off a parked Tesla in Newtonville.

The incident happened on Washington Street on Monday, Aug. 24, shortly before 3:20 p.m., according to Patch. Police described the suspect as a white man wearing a dark-colored bucket hat and a gray T-shirt that read "NEWTONVILLE MA." The footage came from the Tesla's own Sentry Mode security camera, Hoodline reported.

No arrests have been made.

The department is treating the case as malicious destruction of a motor vehicle. Anyone with information can contact Newton Police detectives at 617-796-2104 or by email at [email protected].

The appeal is the second such request in less than two weeks. On Thursday, Aug. 20, police released images of two men believed connected to car break-ins in Newton Centre and the Auburndale area.
