Boston College field hockey upset No. 15 Virginia 4-1 on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Newton Field Hockey Complex. The Eagles then routed Boston University 5-1 on Sunday, Oct. 11, pushing their win streak to three games.

BC (6-7, 1-3 ACC) had beaten just one ranked opponent all season before Friday's result. That changed fast.

Laila Rosenquest opened the scoring against the Cavaliers just 1:01 into the game, finishing a penalty corner off an assist from Madelieve Drion. Virginia equalized at the 8:42 mark, but Ava Meehan answered with 31 seconds left in the first quarter, scoring her first career goal in maroon and gold.

Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Kramer held the 2-1 lead through the middle quarters. She made six saves, four of them in the second period alone. BC's offense broke through again in the fourth quarter. Drion scored at the 47:51 mark, and Maren Boyle added an insurance goal, assisted by Lucy Parker, to seal the 4-1 upset.

Virginia outshot BC 14-7, but the Eagles put six of their seven shots on target.

On Sunday, Oct. 11, BU jumped ahead with a first-quarter goal, but BC responded with five unanswered. Klara Mueffelmann equalized in the second quarter, then Laila Rosenquest converted a penalty stroke and Meehan scored less than three minutes later to give BC a 3-1 lead entering the fourth.

Mueffelmann added her second goal of the afternoon early in the final frame. Lilly Pergola then scored her first collegiate goal, assisted by Boyle, to complete the 5-1 win. BC outshot BU 16-8 and held a 12-1 edge in shots on goal.

Mueffelmann now leads the Eagles with five goals on the season.

Head coach Kelly Doton told The Heights after the BU game that she wanted her team to stay grounded after the Virginia upset. "I just reiterated it to them that BU is a good team, and we've got to make sure that we're staying with what we do well … and play with some urgency," Doton said.

BC's only other ranked win this season came against then-No. 20 Ohio State on Sept. 20. The Eagles travel to No. 9 North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 16, for their next ACC test.
