Boston College field hockey beat No. 20 Ohio State 3-2 in a shootout Sunday, Sept. 20, at Buckeye Varsity Field in Columbus, Ohio. The road upset snapped a two-game losing streak and moved the Eagles to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the ACC.

The win was BC's first over a ranked opponent in five tries this season, The Heights reported.

Ohio State (4-3, 0-0 Big Ten) struck first. Phillippa Jowett scored at 8:49 off assists from Autum Kernechel and Anne Marie Krebs. BC answered at 10:11 when Caroline Chisholm finished off an assist from freshman Maren Boyle to tie it 1-1.

The score held through a scoreless second quarter.

Carmen Chiu put BC ahead 2-1 in the third quarter, converting off a penalty corner from Madelieve Drion at 33:45. The lead held until 55:26, when Jowett scored her second goal to force overtime.

Neither team scored in overtime.

Both teams failed to convert in the first two shootout rounds. Ike Jakobsen and Laila Rosenquest then scored for BC, while Ohio State converted twice to keep pace. In the decisive fifth round, Eagles goalkeeper Charlotte Kramer stopped Senna Schot's attempt. Junior Melea Weber then beat the Buckeye keeper to clinch it.

Kramer finished with four saves in regulation, including two in each of the final two quarters, according to BC Athletics. Ohio State outshot BC 12-8 and held an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.

Two days earlier, on Friday, Sept. 18, BC fell 1-0 to No. 16 Louisville at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky., in the ACC opener for both teams. The Eagles controlled play through three quarters, outshooting the Cardinals 11-7 and earning six penalty corners to Louisville's three. Louisville goalkeeper Emily Young made five saves.

After a weather delay in the third quarter, Louisville's Chloe Plumb scored the lone goal with about eight minutes remaining. She converted off a penalty corner on a pass from Aubreigh Uba.

The Eagles sit at 3-5 with three shutout losses on the season. Head coach Kelly Dotton, in her 12th season leading the program, takes her squad to Duke on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. on ACCNX.
