Newton North hosts Weymouth on Friday, Sept. 25, at 4:30 p.m. in a Bay State Conference showdown between two of the league's three remaining undefeated football teams.

Both squads enter at 2-0.

One will leave with its first loss. The Tigers haven't started 3-0 since 2014, according to MassLive, which listed the matchup among the conference's most compelling Week 3 games. Weymouth is chasing its fourth consecutive 3-0 start.

Senior captain Dominic Busa has been the engine of Newton North's offense. Through two games he has four touchdowns and 402 all-purpose yards, split almost evenly between rushing (198) and receiving (204), per MassLive's weekly review. Junior Nattaf Levi has added three touchdowns of his own, scoring twice in the Week 1 win over Waltham and once in the Sept. 18 Garden City Bowl victory over Newton South.

"It's not gonna get any easier … Weymouth is a great team, they're gonna give us everything we can handle," head coach Nick Capodilupo said after the Garden City Bowl, as reported by MassLive.

The Wildcats present a different challenge than anything Newton North has faced so far. Weymouth coach Mike Donovan's squad rushed for more than 200 yards in a 31-29 Week 1 win over Taunton, with senior backs Peter Marciano (153 yards, one touchdown on 10 carries) and Brendan Flynn (two rushing touchdowns) powering the attack. The Wildcats then ground out a 10-7 defensive win over Diman in Week 2, where defensive end Tyandre Monteiro-Cooper recorded three sacks, according to the Boston Herald.

Weymouth finished 7-3 last season. The program's identity centers on a punishing ground game the players call "hammer football."

Newton North's defense will need to match that physicality. The Tigers allowed 14 points to Newton South in the Garden City Bowl but came up with key stops in the red zone. Junior quarterback Connor Swanson runs the offense behind co-captains Busa, Cole Fontecchio and Will Harvey.

The program has come a long way. Three years ago, Newton North sat at 2-9. After the Sept. 18 win, Swanson told MassLive: "Football is growing here."

Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
